The Friendly Encounter

About The Friendly Encounter

This work is a smaller likeness of a large 2.5 metre high sculpture by “Gagel 1999” which is erected in Erftstadt – Liblar, Germany. Depicted are a woman and a man, representing all people who meet as friends. This statement is strengthened by the dove and heart, both symbols of sympathy.

The sculpture was presented by the Town of Erftstadt to the Town of Wokingham in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the twinning of the two Towns, on 30th November 2002. The figures were set on a plinth and presented to the council by Cllr. Mrs Linda Barnes, after she served as Mayor from 2002 to 2003.
