About Albert Dunham (1921-2007), Wokingham Town Mace-Bearer and Mayor’s Attendant (1983-2003)

The portrait of Mr Albert Dunham wearing the full uniform of the Town Mace Bearer and bearing the Town Mace, was commissioned by Wokingham Town Council in recognition of his twenty years (1981 – 2001) continuous service in that office.

It was presented on 18th December 2002 by the Town Mayor, Councillor A Barber at an Extraordinary Council meeting, attended by Councillors, Past Mayors and his family and friends.

Albert was the Mayor’s Attendant and Macebearer for twenty years. He was also made Honorary Townsperson on his retirement in 2003.

The portrait is hung in the Town Hall on public display.

A smaller portrait commissioned by Past Mayors, whom Mr Dunham had served during that period, was also presented for his private retention.

Albert was also awarded a Civic Award in 1997
