Melanie Allen received a Civic Award in 2016 for her involvement with “More arts”, Winter Carnival, Town Team Supports WTC Fun Day and other town events. Her Nomination follows:-
Melanie is the perennial volunteer. Whenever there is an event that requires supervision or artistic talent the cry goes out to ask Mel. She has never let anyone down and does an exceptional job – always cheerful and patient. Mel is the ideal person to ensure the success of an event. Mel was on the advisory committee of ‘more arts’ then became a trustee and now she is Chairman. She was helping on the periphery of the Winter Carnival and now has PR and advertising responsibility – preparing the programme. Every organisation knows Mel because she is a participant in most events that take place in our town.
An early supporter of The Town Team she has encouraged and supported the retailers since inception and is still encouraging and attending every event – all in her own ‘free’ time. I imagine that is a bit of an anomally as I cannot believe that she has very much. I remember several years ago she made a batch of cakes overnight for a raffle at the ‘more arts’ Winter Arts Fayre.
