David Butler received a Civic Award in 2005 in recognition of his involvement in the Royal British Legion, for which at this time he was Vice President of the Branch and always collecting donations. He also raised money for the Red Cross, the British Lifeboats Institution and the NSPCC. He also helped with the running of the Wade Day Centre.
