Mary Smith and husband Tom Smith received civic awards in 2012 for their volunteering with the 50+ Club, which they took over in 1995. At that time they organised activities, entertainment and holidays for members. The couple also supported the Multiple Sclerosis Society, marshalling charity walks and a regular spring plant sale.
