Naomi Johnstone

About Naomi Johnstone

Naomi Johnstone was given a Civic Award in 1998 for her wide range of charity work.

The following is an extract from the Wokingham Times: –

“One of the best known volunteer workers in Wokingham was a very popular civic award winner. Naomi Johnstone, an ex-Eton matron, of Crescent Road, has helped almost every cause in the district.

In many different ways Mrs Johnstone has supported the All Saints Children’s Society, Wokingham Royal British Legion, WADE, Sue Ryder, the WRVS, the Red Cross, Christian Aid and helped raise money for The Royal British Legion Poppy Day.

Mrs Johnstone said being honoured with an award like this was “very embarrassing”. She was another winner who paid tribute to the work of others. She said “I feel I don’t deserve it, there are many other people who deserve it much more than me”. But she added “I think it is a great honour.” Cllr Bob Wyatt, who gave the citation for his good friend, spoke highly of her wide range of charity work. He said “She is a remarkable lady, she is ageless and she never seems to tire.”
