Joyce Ward

About Joyce Ward

Joyce Ward was given a Civic Award in 2004 for her hard work for over 20 years with the scouting movement.

There follows an extract from the Wokingham Times in 2004: –

“A scouting stalwart of more than 20 years, Joyce Ward is the ex-president of the 4th Wokingham Scouts. She helped with the 4th Wokingham (All Saints’) Brownies for a number of years and is currently an active member of Wokingham’s branch of NSPCC, a trustee with Berkshire Counselling Centre, and a regular helper with fundraising events for RELATE.

Mrs Ward said “It was such a kind thought to have even been nominated, but I’m sure there are a lot of other people in Wokingham who do far more than me. I was pleased though and it is nice to be recognised for all your work. When you volunteer for different charities you get a lot of satisfaction out of it. You hope that because of the work you do it improves people’s lives and makes them feel better or raises money to help. I just carry on with what I’m doing and don’t really think about it.”

Mrs Ward has also supported the Samaritans in Bracknell and Wokingham. Friend of 30 years Jenny Gilbert, one of people who nominated her, said “For as long as I’ve known Joyce she has always been a keen volunteer and helped people. We did meals on wheels together years ago and we’ve done quite a bit of fundraising together over the years.”
