About Ruth Golding

Ruth Gooding was given a Civic Award in 2004 for her dedicated hard work for a range of charities.

There follows an extract from the Wokingham Times in 2004: –

“A range of charities in Wokingham have benefited from the dedicated hard work of a 73 year old mother of two.

Ruth Golding, who lives in Marks Road, Wokingham, has been described by her nominee Peggie Clemetson as “a most caring person” for all her hard work for Cancer Research, visiting the elderly, making collections for the Children’s Society, Christian Aid, the British Red Cross, as well as her work at the creche in Reading prison.

On receiving the notification of her award, Mrs Golding said she was “quite embarrassed but honoured. I was absolutely shocked when I got the letter through my door telling me I was one of the winners. I’m more of a behind the scenes person really. I’m not involved in any committees, I just like helping out, making the tea and things like that.”

Mrs Golding has been a keen volunteer for a number of difference charities since she was 16. She has raised money for WADE in Wokingham, the scanner appeal at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, collected for Alzheimer’s charities and also works in the Cancer Research shop in Market Place, Wokingham. Through her involvement with All Saints’ Church, she also regulary finds time to visit pensioners and do their shopping for them, which she says she thoroughly enjoys.

Mrs Golding added: “I find it lovely going to visit the old people as some of them get so lonely and don’t get to see anybody. I like to think they get a great deal of benefit out of someone going to sit and chat to them. I really enjoy it.””
