Mr. Jefferies the Coal Merchant

About Mr. Jefferies the Coal Merchant

A photograph of Mr. Jefferies, the coal merchant , outside his shop in the Market Place. If a passer by looks up above Super Snaps, the black semicircle that once contained the white letters “Coal Office” can still be seen.

The other photograph is of Mr. Jefferies cart with a large lump of coal that had been unloaded from a railway wagon. A raffle was held to guess its weight, for which tickets cost 6d. each.
