John Lycett Wills was born on 29th May 1910., the son of Arnold Stancomb Wills and Hilda Caroline Lyon. His great great Grandfather was Henry Overton Wills I, founder of Wills & Co which later became the famed tobacco company, W.D. & H.O. Wills.
He married the Hon. Jean Constance Elphinstone, daughter of Sidney Herbert Elphinstone, 16th Lord Elphinstone and Lady Mary Frances Bowes-Lyon, sister of Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mother.
The Wills resided at Allenbay Park, Binfield, Berkshire.
Formerly in the Life Guards, Major Wills held the office of High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1958 and was appointed High Steward of Wokingham in March 1973. He was chairman of the executive committee of the Dockland Settlement. He was High Steward until 1992.
