About Tina Marinos-Miller

Tina was born in London in September 1952 and educated: secondary school in London; St. Hugh’s, Oxford where she read Modern History; Kings College, London, where she obtained a P.G.C.E. As a mature student she studied for a B.A. in English Literature at Reading where she graduated with a first class honours degree. She is currently doing an M.A. in English literature also at Reading.
She taught history and English at Embrook Secondary School until 1998 when she became a training officer for the Citizens’ Advice Bureau. She now serves as Magistrate.
Tina was elected Mayor in 1996, her Deputy-Mayor was Cllr. Janet Payton and her chosen charity was the Children’s Society for which she has been a collector for several years. The theme of her mayoral office was ‘working in partnership with the community’.
Highlights of Tina’s Mayoral Year included: Opening the new library to which the town council made a grant of £50,000; re-letting many vacant premises; the new development around Waitrose; and introducing the town Mobility Scheme. She also introduced the Civic Awards to honour the most hard-working and caring members of the community as Unsung Heroes. This was to be the main civic function of the year. Her Mayor’s Market, held on one day only, made £2,135.
