A native of Wokingham, William was a grocer with premises in Down Street (Denmark Street). He and his wife, Mary Ann (1820-1866), whom he married in 1844 resided in the Barkham Road. After Mary Ann’s death he married Sarah (1845-1943) who survived him by 49 years dying at the age of 98.
William died on Saturday 17th March 1894 and was buried in the Baptist Churchyard in Milton Road beside Mary Ann. Sarah later joined them.
