About Thomas Briant Martin

Thomas was a builder and bricklayer. A native of Bracknell, he and his wife moved to Wokingham and took up residence at the Market Place. There were no children.

In addition to his civic duties he was trustee of the 2nd Wokingham & Bracknell 647th Starr Bowkett Building Society; a trustee of Wokingham Savings Bank; a director of the Wokingham Investment Society; member of the Committee of the British School; member of the Committee of the Wokingham Institute; treasurer of the local Lodge of Odd Fellows and a life-elected charity trustee. He was also a Liberal and belonged to the Baptist Church

Thomas died in his armchair on the morning of Saturday 17th May 1890 after a long illness . He was laid to rest on the following Wednesday in the Free Churchyard in Reading Road.
