Display Cloth

About Display Cloth

The cloth was specially made to cover tables on which the Town Silver was to be displayed when on public exhibit. It is of semicircular design and made from very heavy linen. It is royal blue in colour, this colour being chosen as it best enhances the appearance of the actual silver items. The curved edge is embroidered in silver thread with an acorn and oak leaf motif.

The cloth was commissioned by Councillor Mrs Jeanette Burnett-Wilson, Mayor 1990 – 1991 and presented to the Council on the completion of her Mayoral year. It was made by a Reading Embroidery Needlewoman.
