William White

About William White

A gas fitter by trade, William White was manager of the Wokingham District Water Company with premises and residence at 26 Denmark Street. He and his wife , Fanny, nee Huggins (1833-1907), whom he married in 1873 had no children.

He was bandmaster and honorary secretary of the Wokingham Town Band. He was also a member of the Downshire Lodge of Freemasons.

On 25th May 1893, at a dinner held in the Town Hall, he was presented with a Mayoral Chain and Robe of Office, paid for by public subscription, by the High Steward of Wokingham, John Walter III.

He died on Saturday, 17th February 1906 after several years of ill health and was buried at All Saints Church. Fanny, who died on Sunday, 27th January of the following year, lies beside him.
