Shirley Brown

About Shirley Brown

Shirley Brown was given a Civic Award in 1998 for her role at the Macmillan House cancer day centre at Wokingham Hospital. The following is an extract from the Wokingham Times: –

” One of the most modest winners of the evening was Shirley Brown, who insisted there are many people who work just as hard as she does. Mrs.Brown is the voluntary services co-ordinator at the invaluable Macmillan House cancer day centre at Wokingham Hospital. After she collecyed her ward she said it gave her an excellent opportunity to thank everyone who has worked with her in the past. But she also told the TIMES: ” I am proud, and very happy about the award”.”

In the citation Cllr,. Bob Wyatt commented on the fact Mrs. Brown did not think herself worthy of an award but one of the great things about all these people is that they are all so frightfully modest. ” He then added: ” We are not going to allow you to be modest this evening.” Cllr. Wyatt spoke about Mrs. Brown’s excellent work at Macmillan House.
