About Marcelle Williams

The following is an extract from the Wokingham Times in 2004.
“Marcelle Williams, who lives in Gipsy Lane. Wokingham was given a Civic Award for her dedication to animal welfare. Mrs Williams, 75, was nominated for her tireless work for animals in the UK and overseas and she believes animals are a “significant part of God’s creation”. “I have worked with animals for most of my life,” she said. ” “A project close to my heart is that I am involved in the Anglican Society for the Welfare of Animals and have been for the last five years.”

“When I found that I’d won a civic award I was absolutely amazed and couldn’t understand it really, but was very pleased. Mrs Williams  has supported the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre in Wokingham for the past 20 years by picking up injured animals and taking them to be treated at the centre. She has also organised the annual “blessing of the animals” service at All Saints’ Church in Wokingham for the past 15 years.

“I absolutely love animals as they are so important” Mrs Williams added. “I have two cats and ginger tabby, Sydney, has won a few awards at international cat shows. “I’m also a member of the Wokingham and International Cat’s Protection. I just really enjoy helping with the welfare of animals.”

Esme Few who nominated Mrs Williams, said “This quiet unassuming lady is well worthy of a civic award”
