Made of ebonised wood, the Staves are in two matched pairs black in colour, all carry a painted Coat of Arms.
Like the Mace these signify a transition from defensive to ceremonial use. Two of the Council’s four staves have silver heads in the shape of acorns and oak leaves. They are dated 1877 when Wokingham was still governed by the Corporation. The staves are carried each side of the Macebearer in procession.
